Lecture Presentation
Dr. Menchel has been lecturing on the subject of facial pain, TMD, and sleep dentistry for a number of years to dentists, physicians, dental students and the lay public both nationally and internationally. He has been featured on ABC News and Comcast Newsmakers.
As a private practice dentist he has dedicated his practice to the treatment of facial pain and TMD. As a lecturer he approaches this topic from the vantage point of a “wet fingered dentist” having treated TMD and facial pain patients for thirty years. Many other speakers on this topic preside strictly in a university setting and don’t often present the challenges that private practitioners face. Dr. Menchel not only addresses these issues but provides useful information that a practitioner can use immediately on return to their office.
His presentation has been exceptionally well received by all attendees. He takes what can be a controversial and confusing topic and distills it down to the essentials every private practitioner needs. The TMD evidence base is presented and misconceptions are clarified. Dentists will have the knowledge necessary for accurate decision making they can immediately take back to their practice.
His all day presentation builds from basics with a current overview of orofacial pain. This is followed by understanding the anatomy of the muscles of mastication and the TM joints. The TMJ examination is presented so the participants can more accurately diagnose these disorders. The focus of the presentation then changes to biomechanics and occlusal considerations ending with a detailed discussion of splint therapy. Case histories are used to illustrate all topics. The final hour is a state of the art presentation of sophisticated occlusal management of patients with TMJ arthritis.
Attendees of the presentation have commented that Dr. Menchel has a pleasant speaking style which is “easy listening” and makes the presentation go by quickly.
Most importantly this topic is essential for every dentist whether they choose to treat TMD or not. While it is a refreshing change from the more common restorative, implant, and cosmetic topics it touches upon all of these because it is essential for treatment planning any restorative, implant or cosmetic case.
If you are interested Dr. Menchel would be happy to send a more complete CV and references as well as a short video. He can be contacted at 954-345-2264.
